In DeQuincy, Junk on the Lot Is on a 10-Day Clock
An old fridge on the carport, building materials stacked behind the shed, tires leaning on the fence. It is easy to leave it for later.
DeQuincy’s code does not leave it for later. It is unlawful to store junk, trash, debris, discarded or disused appliances, lawn equipment, tires, building materials or machinery on any vacant or occupied lot (Sec. 10-71). After notice, you have 10 days to remove it, and each day after that counts as a separate violation (Secs. 10-72 to 10-75). The city also publishes what it charges to clean up a property itself: a $75 administrative fee plus $125 an hour with a two-hour minimum, set in 2023 and rising 4 percent a year (Sec. 10-62).
Klutter Krewe hauls all of it before a notice ever shows up. Send photos, get a real number, and anything worth keeping stays.
What DeQuincy’s code says about junk and debris
- Junk, discarded appliances, tires and building materials cannot be stored on a vacant or occupied lot (Sec. 10-71).
- After notice, the owner has 10 days to remove it (Secs. 10-72 to 10-74).
- Renovation material is not city trash. The owner has it removed at his own expense (Sec. 10-56).
- Waste set out for a private hauler cannot sit between the curb and the sidewalk more than 24 hours (Sec. 10-39).
- Burning waste outdoors is prohibited. Attended burning of leaves, grass, twigs, branches and vines is the exception (Secs. 9-41 to 9-44).

What DeQuincy Families Ask Before Booking
These cover the junk ordinance, remodel debris, burning, out-of-town families, cost and the free parish drop-off.
Not under the city code. DeQuincy’s code of ordinances makes it unlawful to store junk, discarded or disused appliances, tires, building materials and similar items on any vacant or occupied lot (Sec. 10-71). After notice, you have 10 days to remove them. We haul appliances and tires, including tractor tires.
No. The code treats household “trash” as furniture, bedding and similar items that will not fit in the cart, and says renovation material is not included: the owner has it removed at his own expense (Sec. 10-56). Building debris set out for a private hauler also cannot sit between the curb and the sidewalk more than 24 hours (Sec. 10-39).
Not if it is waste. DeQuincy prohibits outdoor burning of waste, with an exception for attended burning of leaves, grass, twigs, branches and vines by the owner (Secs. 9-41 to 9-44). Furniture, building materials and household junk have to be hauled.
